Watch Porn: Patek Philippe

A few weeks ago The Wall Street Journal published a list of 10 rules for the vintage watch buyer. The first rule is buy something you want to wear. The second rule is buy a reputable brand. So far these watches are two for two. Patek Philippe watches have some of the best resale values among collectable brands and hold many of the price records for watches sold at auction. In 2009 a Patek Philippe Caliber 89 sold at auction for just over $5,000,000.00. Vintage watch prices have been appreciating for over 20 years. Patek Philippe, Rolex and Cartier watches in particular have maintained an upward trajectory as styles and tastes have changed.

There is no such thing as a cheap Patek. No… the one you bought on Canal Street for $50 doesn’t count. New or vintage, it’s going to cost you. But a vintage Patek Philippe offers a relativity affordable way to start a collection for less than $10,000.00.

Which way is Canal Street?
